CAN'T SHUT US UP, CAN'T SHUT US DOWN
MAGNIFICENCE: HARRIET TUBMAN DAVIS, is an assemblage expressing the breadth of Harriet Tubman’s life and accomplishments. The red dress and accessories represent her beauty, elegance, and pervasive power. The burlap images symbolize her fortitude, genius, and manifested will. The contemporary silver and multi-hued background embodies Harriet Tubman’s legacy beyond all limitations.
MIDDLE PASSAGE: SWIMMING WITH THE ANCESTORS, dives us into the ocean where our ancestors perished in a variety of ways while captured. The layers, textures, colors, shimmers, and golden highlights form abstract figures frolicking, backstroking, in synchronized routines, and bobbing in contemplation, free of the terror experienced on-board and upon hitting the water. They show us the power of resurrection and guide us into active resilience now.
